Waiting for the result: A new page will appear showing whether you were selected (winning message) or not selected in this round (non-winning message).
If this message appears to you: 'Your entry was not selected,' this means you did not win this year's lottery.
The moment of truth may be discouraging for some... but remember, this result is not the end of the dream! If this message appears: "Your entry was not selected to continue in the Electronic Diversity Visa Program at this time," it means your chance in this year's lottery has ended. But don't lose hope! Accept the result, and prepare well to try again in the next lottery if you're eligible. A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, and your next step could be registering next year!
Does the U.S. State Department Send Text Messages (SMS) or Emails to Notify Winners of the 2025/2026 American Lottery?
No, the U.S. State Department never sends any type of winning message via SMS text messages or emails to notify winners of the diversity immigration program (American lottery).
The Official and Only Way to Check Winning Status:
The official and only method the U.S. State Department provides for lottery participants to check the status of their applications and whether they won or not, is by visiting the official website of the Diversity Visa (DV) Program at the following link: dvprogram.state.gov.
If you are among the winners, you will see a congratulatory message and detailed instructions on the next steps you must take, including how to fill out the DS-260 form. If you were not lucky in this round, you will see a message stating so.
Why Isn't Email or Text Messaging Used?
Important warning: You must be very cautious of any emails or text messages claiming to notify you of your win in the American lottery. These messages are often scams aimed at stealing your personal information or money. Never respond to these messages or provide any personal or financial information.

What Does the Winning Message (Selection Message) in the 2025/2026 American Lottery Look Like?
After the results of the diversity immigration lottery (DV Lottery) or the Diversity Visa program appear, some may find it difficult to understand the winning message (notification) that appears when checking their status on the official website. To clarify, here is what you need to know about the selection notice ("winning message") and its content:
"Congratulations! We are pleased to inform you that you have been randomly selected to continue with the Diversity Visa program procedures for fiscal year 2026."
Summary of the message: This notice indicates that your selection does not guarantee you will receive the visa, as the number of those selected exceeds the number of available visas. Therefore, it is essential to follow the instructions precisely to increase your chances of obtaining the visa. The next steps include filling out the DS-260 form online, submitting required documents at the interview, and waiting for an interview date to be set based on visa number availability. Important email notifications will be sent to the email address you provided in your initial application, so you must inform the Kentucky Consular Center (KCC) if you change your email address. To contact KCC, you must always include your name, case number, and full date of birth as stated in your original application.
If this message appears to you: "Your entry has been selected," it means you are among the potential winners of this year's lottery!
